Welcome to my web page! I love teaching kindergarten here at SCA! I am married to a devoted husband and we have 5 mostly grown children. I have taught kindergarten here since 2006. In the course of my teaching career, I have had the opportunity to teach in public schools, private schools, and my own homeschool for a few years during the time we were located in a remote area of Thailand as missionaries.
I highly value the opportunity to teach in a Christian School! Our children need to be taught to view the world through the truth of God's Word! Godly parents, the local church, and the faculty and staff at SCA, all work together to see a generation of young people prepared to live their lives for the glory of God.
Kindergarten is an eventful year here at SCA! It's the year the kids learn to read! We start off with ABC's and in short order, begin reading short vowel words and then progress to eventually reading short stories. By second semester we even try our hand at spelling tests! We also learn to count and read and write numbers to 100 and sometimes beyond. We also learn to add and subtract!
We encounter an amazing amount of science and social studies facts in our afternoon unit study lessons! One of my favorite units is the lessons we teach on Children Around the World! With "passports" in hand we get to "travel" all around the world. We learn to name all of the continents and the major oceans of the world. We enjoy a fiesta, and a Hawaiian luau in addition to tasting foods from around the world. We come to understand that God loves kids from all over the world and desires for all kids to know about his saving love for them.
Many of my kindergarten graduates like to return for hugs and to reminisce about their sweet memories of kindergarten! It's a special year in the life of a child! I am privileged to be a part of it.
