Head Coach Luke Barnwell

Coach Luke Barnwell is entering his 3rd season at Sunrise Christian Academy and first as Head Coach of the Elite high school team.  The first 2 seasons at Sunrise, Coach Barnwell started the first ever Prep, Post-Graduate, team in the school's history.  In those 2 seasons, Barnwell led the prep team to a 41-13 record against Junior college teams and other Prep teams (record of 20-2 against other prep teams). One of Coach Barnwell's biggest successes as the Prep team head coach was coaching 13 NCAA D1 players in two years. Barnwell now takes on the role of the head high school coach after former head coach Kyle Lindsted left Sunrise to be a full-time assistant coach at Wichita State University.

Barnwell came to Sunrise Christian Academy from Newman University, where he played, coached and graduated from. After starting his college career at Emporia State, Barnwell transferred to Newman University after 2 years. An injury plagued career opened up doors to coaching. His 5th year, Barnwell was a student assistant while finishing his undergrad.  During that season, the Newman University Jets reached the NCAA D2 national tournament for the first time in school history.
